Description
AntiqueFor your consideration is an interesting Japanese antique
An early round box, possibly food or spice container with locking lid
Painted and lacquered wood with finely elaborated brass or copper alloy hardware: hinges, locks and handle
Maroon / dark red color with yellow and brown ribbons on the side and a mandala style decoration on top.
Most of the original paint remains
It was covered with varnish at some point back in time, for preservation and conservation
The interior is painted in yellow / ochre and it keeps the aroma of cinnamon
Circa late 19th century, Meiji Period (1868-1912)
An old label from antiques store in Dallas is still attached

Measurements:
Approx. 6" diameter x 3" tall x 2" deep
Weighs almost 1 lb.
Condition:
Good/Very Good overall. The original paint remains. Small and unobtrusive natural cracks on the wood around the hinges with possibly very old repairs, a minor flake on the top edge of the inner part under the lid, altogether commensurate with age and use. Please see photos below
