Description
This is a Japanese antique Meiji or Edo Era (1800's)Japanese Inbako used for holding inhan signature stamps
. This tiny tansu is made of solid
Keyaki
(zelkova - Japanese elm) on all outside faces while the drawer is
sugi wood
(cryptomeria). The metal hardware bronze finished with burnt lacquer.
The method of construction as well as the bronze work on this chest help date it to the mid to late 19th century. This chest was used to hold the small wood and marble inhan stamps used for signatures and official documents.
Along with a century and a half old warm patina this chest remains in
fine
condition.
This

chest measures 7 3/4" long by 4 1/2'' wide by 5 1/4" tall (18 x 11.5 x 13 cm). A very warm accent for your home or office. For collectors of tansu this is a unusual piece to add being one of the smallest available. Please enjoy the enlarged pictures to get a full appreciation of the fine
