Description:
This is an excellent quality incense container called KOGO in Japanese.
It was originally made to be used at tea ceremony.
Of course, you can use it in any ways with your creative idea.
The theme (or design) of this incense container is "Autumn".
The illustrated flowers and an insect are those which typically represent autumn.
It was made by an artist Soga Arai (新井 宗賀) in Kaga, whose signature is seen at the left hand side
of the box (photo #10).
His excellent quality of work is endorsed by Taigen Kobayashi (小林太玄).
He is the 20th head at Oubai-In temple (
黄梅院
), which is a part of Daitoku-Ji temple (
大徳寺).
He signed on the back of the lid of kogo (photo #9) as well as on the back of the lid of the box (photo #11).
These facts added the extra value to this kogo.
The base material of this kogo is made of paulownia wood, so that it is extremely light, i.e.  only
15 gr  or  0.6 oz.
It is in excellent condition. No chips or cracks at all.
White (shining) parts on photographs are reflection of light, i.e. not an issue.
