Description
I've never quite had a Museum quality head piece such as this, but here it is being shown for the first time on Ebay!
As far as I can tell, this is a traditional bride or groom wedding head gear to be worn on their wedding. Not sure if this is made for the bride or the groom (any help would be appreciated).
It's covered with tin?/metallic pieces of different shapes and sizes and a "crown" that makes a noise when the pieces move into each other. There are also bells which ring when the person moves about.
The metal crown thing measures 4.5 inches, and the whole thing from top to bottom measures about 9 to 9.5 inches. There are also 3 strips of cloth, 2 thin and one wider that have real coins from some country in the Asia continent that is sewn into the fabric. (see the scan for a closer view). There are also sea shells sewn on the top of this headgear surrounding the "crown" which has become detached (just need a simple sewing to fix). There may be a few pieces of metal missing from this piece.
The diameter from the bottom of the piece measures 7 inches (17cm). It looks a BIT used, not much at all.
In regard to its age, since there's a coin from 1948, I would assume then that this is about the same age, 1948-1950.
DO see the other tribal head piece I am selling also here on Ebay.
My guess is that one of these head coverings was for the bride and one was for the groom. I have no idea though which is which!
