Made out of fine cherry wood with sterling silver top
Japanese Nielo technique used to create a traditional river landscape with a fortified castle
Clearly signed by the artist with Japanese characters, front bottom left
Well marked K.UYEDA / Sterling on the back side of the silver lid
Dated 1928 on a daring inscription of the lid inside
Circa early 1900's, Meiji period; it is older than the date of the inscription
K. UYEDA - Kichigoro Uyeda, silversmith and jeweler, the founder of a renown jewelry, art and luxury souvenirs store for people from foreign countries, operated from 1884 to 1923 in Tokyo. Next generations of Uyeda jewelers carry the tradition until now
